I am the Member of Parliament for the Cardiff South and Penarth constituency. As your Member of Parliament, it is important that I and my office can keep in touch with constituents about my work, take up casework on your behalf and ask for views on local issues.

What personal data is collected

My office (which refers to me, Stephen Doughty MP, and my staff) will only collect and use personal information for the specific purpose for which it has been obtained.

This includes information/details you provide by email, telephone, letter, or submitted through contact forms; such as your name, address, postcode, email address, phone number, reference numbers, and any message you send.

The information you provide may relate to general enquiries, policy correspondence, campaign matters, constituency casework or other issues you choose to raise.

Why personal data is collected and used

To respond to or assist with enquiries submitted; to keep in touch with constituents about my work as a Member of Parliament; to take up casework on your behalf; to ask for views on issues; to advise about local events.

Lawful basis for processing

We process your personal data based on you providing your consent, or where it is necessary for a public task (including activities to support or promote democratic engagement), allowing me to carry out my duties as a Member of Parliament.

Where we process special category data (requiring extra protection), we do so based on you providing your consent, or where it is necessary in my role as a Member of Parliament for reasons of substantial public interest (including responding to constituent requests).

Data Sharing

For the purposes of assisting constituents in my role as a Member of Parliament, I and my office may share your data with government departments, local authorities and other public bodies as necessary.

We do not share your information with third parties, unless required by law or with your explicit consent. Any personal data you provide is stored securely and accessed only by authorised staff members. We do not use your data for marketing purposes nor sell it to third parties.

We will not transfer your data beyond the EEA unless it is necessary and we have implemented appropriate safeguards, which are likely to be standard contractual clauses, or where an “adequacy decision” has been granted by the appropriate authorities. 

Retention of personal data

I will keep your personal information for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy. Information relating to casework and other correspondence may be retained while I remain the Member of Parliament for Cardiff South and Penarth, where this is necessary to respond to enquiries, manage ongoing casework, maintain appropriate records and support continued service to constituents.

If you have consented to receive information about my work, I will only retain your personal information while I am the Member of Parliament for Cardiff South and Penarth, or you ask not to be contacted further.
